Carver’s Connor Cornell claims 2022 batting title

CARVER – It was a season to remember Carver’s Connor Cornell at the plate in 2022. After getting off to a hot start, Cornell never slowed down the rest of the season as he ran away with the 2022 Batting Title with an average of .492 this season.

Cornell’s impressive average of .492 is the highest batting average in the Crow River Valley League since 2018 when Cologne’s Carter Clemensen finished with an average of .500

In 17 games this season, Cornell had at least one hit in all but two games. In those two games, he drew six walks as he became one of the most feared hitters in the league. He finished with 10 multi-hit games including two games with four hits.

Cornell’s biggest game of the year came against the Cologne Hollanders in which he went 4-for-6 with two doubles, four runs scored, and four RBI in a blowout win.

A talented player in which he could hit for power and average, Cornell was near the top in almost every offensive statistical category in 2022. He was tied for fifth in the league with five doubles, tied for seventh in RBI with 15, tied for second in triples with two, tied for fourth in runs scored with 19, and tied for third in walks with 14.

Cornell’s big season has the Carver Black Sox back in the Region 7C Tournament once again at the No. 4 seed. The Black Sox will be looking to secure their sixth consecutive trip to the state tournament this year.
