Youth umpiring clinic coming to Watertown

A youth umpiring clinic will be coming to Watertown this spring for youth looking to get into umpiring. The clinic will take place at the Watertown-Mayer Learning Center Audito- rium Saturday, March 14 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. This clinic is open to anyone ages 13-19 interested in learning about umpiring. This pro- gram is being held at the Watertown-Mayer Community Learning Center, but is open to youth from any school district. This program is for both softball and baseball umpiring. The instructors are not promoting any sanction body of either sport, but see a need of getting new umpires for lower level games. There will be time spent on rules and mechanics of the games. You will learn about protective equipment and type of attire to umpire. The Lead Instructor will be Dwight Stephens who began umpiring with Little League Base- ball in 2014. He attended his first formal week-long Umpire Academy in 2018 that was hosted by Little League’s Western Region.
